Xiaomi 12 First Impressions and Review

Xiaomi 12, which packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 120Hz AMOLED Screen, 50MP Triple Cameras & More.

In-Hand feel

The screen is 6.28 inches, it would fit perfectly even if you have small hands.

Build quality

It has a leather finish but it also comes with a glass back. And it also has 4 color variants.

Ports and Buttons

All the buttons are there except the 3.5MM jack, the position of the bottom and top speakers is different because when you hold them, your hands might cover them.

Display

It comes with a 6.28 inch AMOLED FHD display, 120Hz fast refresh rate & gorilla glass Victus. It has a 12-bit display too, I did not notice much difference, it also supports Dolby vision & HDR10+ The bezels and the chin are very slim.

Performance

It has an SD 8Gen1 processor, they claimed an Antutu score of 1M, and when we tried it showed 865007. We have an 8GB+256GB variant, it also comes in 8GB+128GB & 12GB+256GB. The performance was top-notch, the screen is a bit small for gaming, generally, gamers prefer the big screen. But if you want a compact phone with games, this is the one. It has a 480Hz sampling rate. The position of the speakers is a bit weird, we did not spend much time on the phone, the SD888 was getting too hot. But we will have to play a bit longer to be sure.

UI

It has an MIUI 13, the recent updates in MIUI 12.5 are similar to the 13 version.

sensors

All the sensors are available including an IR blaster, in-display fingerprint sensor, 360 light sensors, the flicker sensor Reduces the flicker during video shoots. It is supported by Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G(not sure of bands), Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, NFC & Navic too.

Features

It doesn’t have FM Radio but supports Widevine L1, generally, Chinese phones do not have Widevine L1, camera2API is included too. The Xiaomi 12 Pro has an IP certification.

Camera

The primary sensor is good, IMX766 which has a Sony sensor of 50MP, secondary sensor is 13MP Ultrawide, And a 5MP Tele macro camera with which you can click macro photos and videos. The photos are good. The saturation level is good for the primary camera, but not so much for the ultra-wide. The 32MP selfie camera is okayish, is a bit soft. You can click 8K@24FPS videos, very few smartphones allow 8K videos 4K@60FPS is included too & the Fov of the ultra-wide camera is 123°.

Battery

The battery is 4500mAh powered by a 67W fast charger which is good for a compact phone & the processor is 4nm, it can last for 1-2 days. The Chinese price of the base variant is 3699 Yuan, which will be around Rs 43K, the 8GB+256GB will cost around Rs 46K. The top variant 12GB+256GB will cost around Rs 53K.
